After a two-year intense and passionate restoration project, the iconic 1988 Mercedes-Benz Unimog U1700 has rumbled through the doors of HD Tuning, ready for a comprehensive dyno test. The heart of this mechanical beast, the OM353.959 5.7L 6-cylinder engine, was set to reveal its secrets.
The customer’s journey with their Unimog has been a true test of love. With meticulous attention to detail, they had one goal in mind — to revive this classic piece of engineering to its former glory, and perhaps, discover untapped potential. The expectation? A modest 90-100Hp and 275-300Nm of torque. The reality, as our dyno testing proved, was far better than expected.
As the Unimog was strapped down, and the testing commenced, the anticipation was palpable. The result? An impressive 118.7Hp and 363.1Nm of torque. The customer’s expectations were not only met but exceeded by a significant margin, marking a victorious moment for this vintage warrior.
But it’s not all about peak figures at HD Tuning. We delve deeper, logging crucial data that serves as a roadmap for the vehicle’s performance journey. For the Unimog, this meant charting the Air to Fuel ratio and monitoring boost pressure — critical metrics for the owner’s future enhancements and upkeep.
